The car must not only run fast, but also brake it

The quality of a car does not depend on how fast the car can run, but on how fast the car can stop. It must be this car part to stop the car. It is the car's brake (also called Brake), the full name of the brake system (also called brake system), the brake system is divided into two brake (brake) methods: disc brake (also called disc brake) and drum brake. Generally, small vehicles with 7 seats or less use disc brakes, and large vehicles (buses, trucks) use drum brakes.

What is a disc brake?

Disc brakes, as the name implies, are stationary brake calipers (brake pads are installed under the calipers), and the brake discs coaxial with the wheels generate friction to slow the wheels until they stop. The brake calipers of disc brakes are typical of static braking. There are brake pistons on both sides of the calipers, usually 4-piston calipers. Some supercars or high-end models have six-piston calipers. Such calipers, brake pads and brake discs will increase accordingly. To improve braking efficiency.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of disc brakes?

The advantages of disc brakes are:

1. The structure is relatively simple, composed of brake pistons, brake calipers, brake pads, and brake discs, which are easy to maintain.

2. High heat dissipation performance, high-frequency braking is not easy to produce thermal attenuation, and it is not easy to cause brake degradation and brake failure

3. The environment has little impact on the brake, and the rain has little impact on the brake system, which can be ignored. But tire slip is not controlled by the brake system.

Disadvantages of disc brakes are:

1. There is no automatic braking effect, and the braking force is required to be greater, or a more powerful hydraulic piston device is required to complete the braking.

2. The friction area between the brake pad and the brake disc of the disc brake is small, so that the braking force is relatively small (mostly used for small mass, small vehicles)

3. It is not easy to install the handbrake device, and a set of drum brake handbrake mechanism is required.

The wear of the brake pads is large, resulting in a higher replacement frequency.

How to maintain?

1. Check the brake fluid level. If the level is too low, replenish the brake fluid in time. Check the purity of the brake fluid. Too dirty brake fluid will greatly reduce the braking effect.

2. Check the brake pads. The brake pads are easy to wear parts. Generally, when a car runs 30000 kilometers, it is necessary to check the thickness of the brake pads from time to time. You can consider replacing them at 60000 kilometers.

What is a drum brake?

Two semi-circular brake pads are installed in the wheel hub, and the brake pads are pushed by the "lever principle" to make the brake pads contact the inner surface of the wheel drum and cause friction. Simply put, a drum brake is a brake device that uses the stationary brake pads in the brake drum to rub the brake drum that rotates with the wheels to generate friction to reduce or stop the rotation speed of the wheels.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of drum brakes?

The advantages of drum brakes are:

1. With automatic braking function, the brake system can use lower oil pressure or use a brake drum with a much smaller diameter than the brake disc.

2. For vehicles with drum brakes, it is easy to install the handbrake device.

The disadvantages of drum brakes are:

1, easy to produce thermal attenuation, can not be continuous high frequency braking, easy to cause brake failure.

2. The brake system responds slowly, and the brake pedal force is not easy to control, which is not conducive to high-frequency braking actions.

3, the structure is more complex, not easy to repair and maintenance.

4. It is greatly affected by the environment, and the water entering the drum brake in rainy days will cause brake recession or failure.
